How the County is taking action
Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan: 2026-2050
The Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan Update was adopted by County Council on April 22, 2026. This is a long-term strategy and a five-year action plan to reduce climate risks and build resilience.
Resilience is how well we cope with change. Climate resiliency is how we cope with a changing climate, including extreme weather and shifting temperatures, rain, and snow.
Complementary strategies are required to respond to climate change and build resilience.
Mitigation actions aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which will slow the amount of warming the Earth will experience.
Adaptation includes actions that support the community experience of climate change impacts in the present and future. Both strategies work together to protect people from the harm of a changing climate.
Over the next five years, the County will work toward achieving the initiatives set out in the plan update. Our work plan over the next five years supports:
- Reducing corporate GHG emissions by 40-45% from 2018 levels to meet the Federal 2030 targets
- Doing our part to reduce GHG emissions
- Improved sustainability and resilience across the County
- A completed Climate Adaptation Plan
