The purpose of Development Charges is to recover costs incurred as a result of the new development by providing a mechanism for collecting funds for growth-related capital costs or improvements.
By passing a By-law under the Development Charges Act, the County may impose a Development Charge for new or expanding development. This charge ensures that funds are available so that existing development does not experience a decreased level of service, and that new development pays for the capital expenditures for which it is responsible.Â
The County of Peterborough Development Charges By-law will be effective from May 2, 2022 to April 30, 2027 (will be extended to May 2032).Â
