The County Planning department is responsible for:

Severance processing and approval
Plan of subdivision and condominium processing and approval
Processing and approval of amendments to the County Official Plan
Approval of amendments to Township Official Plans
Providing planning services to local Townships
Providing planning advice to County Council

Building permits, Zoning By-Law Amendments and minor variances are issued and processed by the local Township. Please contact your Township Office to discuss these types of applications.

Development Charges

The County has a Development Charges By-Law and new rates in effect as of May 2, 2022.

Pre-Consultation

A meeting with us is highly recommended prior to submitting any County Official Plan Amendment, plan of subdivision or plan of condominium application.

New County Official Plan

In 2017, the County initiated the development of a new Official Plan; one that is more user-friendly, and meets both Provincial and local directives.

Official Plan

The County of Peterborough Official Plan (OP) sets the land use and planning framework for local Official Plans and decision-making.

Peer Review and Planning Reimbursement Agreement

Agreement with Peterborough County to have the various components of a Development Application reviewed by the County’s retained Peer Review Consultant.

Peterborough County Watershed Plan

Peterborough County is developing the first Watershed Plan to help understand the current condition of water and land resources in the area.

Severances

A severance is an application process that creates one or more new lots from an existing property.

Subdivisions and Condos

A plan of subdivision or condominium is an application process that creates multiple lots or blocks from an existing property. A registered plan will outline how the lots or blocks can be developed.

Zoning

A zoning by-law is a Township document that regulates how land and buildings are used. Each of the eight Townships in the County has their own zoning by-law.
