TD Economic Outlook Brings Key Insights to Peterborough Business Community

Peterborough County, ON – TD Economic Outlook Brings Key Insights to Peterborough Business Community.

Peterborough County Economic Development, in partnership with TD Bank Group, successfully hosted the TD Economic Outlook today at the Canadian Canoe Museum. The event brought together over 100 business leaders and community stakeholders to explore economic trends and strategies for navigating the year ahead.

Keynote speaker Derek Burleton, Vice-President and Deputy Chief Economist at TD Bank Group, provided an in-depth analysis of provincial, national, and global markets. His presentation highlighted:

  • The Ontario and Canadian economies continue to grow modestly, as ongoing healthy expansion in less-tariff-exposed sectors counters weakness in the trade-exposed areas.
  • With economic growth likely to gain a modest step in 2026, TD Economics sees interest rates remaining quite stable next year at close to current levels.
  • Canada's Achilles heel is weak business investment. Federal budget measures should provide some support to lifting capital spending, but their ultimate impact will boil down to execution.

Brenda Whitehead, President and CEO of the Peterborough and The Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce, shared perspectives on local business resiliency, the opportunities and challenges, and the role that the Chamber plays to support business.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network and engage in meaningful discussions about how these insights can inform their own business planning and decision-making, while being treated to a catered breakfast from Chemong Lodge.

"Peterborough County is committed to fostering a strong and resilient economy. Today’s event provided valuable insights that will help our businesses prepare for the future. We are proud to partner with TD Bank Group and local leaders to bring this important conversation to our region."
— Bonnie Clark, Warden, Peterborough County

The event concluded with a media scrum featuring Derek Burleton, offering further commentary on economic trends and their implications for local businesses.
