Peterborough County Tourism Elevates Visitor Experience with Innovative Interactive Map

Peterborough County, ON – August 26, 2025 – Peterborough County Tourism & Communications Department continues to build momentum and deliver results with the launch of an innovative digital Interactive Visitor Map, a new tool that enhances how people discover and experience The Kawarthas.

In January 2025, Peterborough County made the strategic decision to bring tourism and economic development services in-house. Since then, the County’s Tourism and Communications division has been tasked with promoting The Kawarthas as a premier destination while ensuring visitors have access to the best tools and resources. The new Interactive Visitor Map is a clear example of this vision in action - showcasing the County’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and elevating the visitor experience.

The Kawarthas is already home to a popular tourism website, thekawarthas.ca, which provides intuitive navigation, insider information, and the ability to create personalized wish lists and itineraries. Now, with the addition of the Interactive Visitor Map, visitors, locals, and seasonal residents can take their trip planning to another level. Whether the visit is for a day or a full week, this map turns dreaming about a trip into planning the details - highlighting essentials like public washrooms and EV charging stations, boat launch sites, and inviting exploration across each of the eight unique townships and two First Nations.  The Visitor Map highlights everything from outdoor adventures and cultural experiences to traveller amenities and year-round accommodations across The Kawarthas. Easy to use on desktop and mobile, the map is fully searchable, regularly updated, and designed to make trip planning both simple and exciting.

Developed in partnership with the County’s GIS department, the map is more than a planning tool, it’s a living, evolving platform that highlights everything that makes The Kawarthas unique.

The Interactive Visitor Map empowers users to:

  • Plan their outing virtually with an intuitive, user-friendly interface.
  • Customize their journey with searchable layers that include local attractions, historic sites, farmers markets, Trent Severn Water Way Locks, Conservation Areas, beaches and more.
  • Explore beyond print limitations, with the ability to add new features and update content instantly - something no printed map can do.
  • Discover authentic, local experiences that reflect the culture, charm, and natural beauty of The Kawarthas.

“Printed maps will always hold a place in the hearts of many visitors,” said Tracie Bertrand, General Manager of Tourism and Communications. “But this new digital map is an innovative tool that positions Peterborough County, “The Kawarthas” as a leader in visitor experience”.

"At Peterborough County, the visitor experience is at the heart of everything we do. Whether someone is visiting for the first time, returning for the season, or exploring their own backyard, we want them to feel inspired, informed, and connected to all that The Kawarthas has to offer. The new interactive visitor map is a game-changer; it puts the needs of our visitors front and center while highlighting the individuality of each township and showing how together they create a truly unforgettable destination."
