Peterborough County Statement on the Passing of Rob Winslow

September 14, 2026

Peterborough County is saddened to learn of the passing of Robert (Rob) Winslow, founder of 4th Line Theatre and one of the most influential cultural leaders in the history of our region.

For more than three decades, Rob brought the stories of our communities to life. Through his vision, creativity and dedication, 4th Line Theatre became a nationally recognized cultural destination that celebrated local history, rural life and the people who shaped this place we call home.

Founded on the historic Winslow family farm in Millbrook, 4th Line Theatre reflected Rob’s deep connection to the land, agriculture and heritage that have long defined Peterborough County. By transforming their 5th generation family farm into an outdoor stage, he created a uniquely Canadian experience where local stories could be told in the very landscapes where they happened.

Rob’s contribution extended far beyond the stage. He inspired generations of artists, performers, volunteers and audiences, while helping establish Peterborough County as a destination for arts, culture, heritage and rural experiences. His commitment to preserving and sharing local stories strengthened community pride and ensured that the history and experiences of this region would continue to be shared with future generations.

Warden Bonnie Clark offered the following statement:

“Rob Winslow’s vision helped put Peterborough County on the cultural map. He understood that our history lives not only in books and archives, but in our farms, villages, landscapes and the stories passed from one generation to the next. Through 4th Line Theatre and the Winslow Farm, he created a place where our agricultural roots, heritage and community spirit could be shared and celebrated. His contribution to our region is immeasurable, and his legacy is woven into the identity of The Kawarthas. He will be deeply missed.”

On behalf of Peterborough County Council and staff, we extend our sincere condolences to Rob’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire 4th Line Theatre community.

His legacy will continue to be felt across Peterborough County and The Kawarthas - in the stories he shared, the opportunities he created, and the enduring connection he helped build between our communities, our history and the land we call home.
