Peterborough County Invests in Future Talent
Peterborough County, ON – Peterborough County is celebrating the contributions of its 2026 summer students and reaffirming its commitment to developing the workforce of tomorrow through meaningful employment opportunities, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.
This summer, students worked across a variety of departments including Operations, Engineering & Construction, Communications and Tourism, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability and Waste Management, and Lang Pioneer Village Museum, gaining valuable experience while contributing directly to projects and initiatives that support residents, businesses, and visitors across Peterborough County and The Kawarthas.
Students contributed to several high-impact County initiatives this summer, including the new Mobile Visitor Services Program, which connected directly with visitors across The Kawarthas; the Business Count Program, which gathered information from local businesses to support future economic development and retention efforts; the Garbage to Garden program, where students brought sustainability into residents’ backyards by installing composters and providing hands-on education; and visitor engagement at Lang Pioneer Village Museum, where students helped share the region’s cultural and agricultural heritage with thousands of guests.Â

The success of Peterborough County's student employment program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the County's People Services team and the many general managers, managers, supervisors, and staff who dedicate time to mentoring, coaching, and supporting students throughout the summer. Their commitment helps ensure students leave with not only valuable experience, but also the confidence, professional skills, and connections needed to succeed in their future careers.
Students also contribute significant value to the organization by bringing fresh perspectives, new ideas, creativity, and enthusiasm to their teams. Their contributions help foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement while providing important insights into the priorities and expectations of future generations.
