Official Launch of the Circular County Community Hub Marks Circular Economy Month in Peterborough County

Peterborough County has developed a Circular County Community Hub on Engage Peterborough County. This is a new initiative designed to empower residents and local businesses to embrace sustainable living through the principles of a circular economy.

The Circular County Community Hub is built around sharing, reusing, repairing, and recycling. The platform connects community members with local resources to help them reduce waste, extend the life of everyday items, save money, and build a greener, more resilient Peterborough County. In a time where many households and businesses are feeling the pinch, the hub offers a platform to connect you with practical, low-cost ways to live more sustainably - many of which are free.

October is recognized nationally as Circular Economy Month, making this the perfect time to launch the Circular County Community Hub. It’s an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate local efforts, and encourage residents and businesses to take part in building a stronger, circular future for our community.

Our current ‘take-use-dispose’ system is no longer sustainable. Our goal with this project is that residents and businesses will engage in the platform and share their ideas to help offer practical, local solutions that help Peterborough County shift toward a circular economy, where materials are kept in use for as long as
possible. There are already quite a few businesses and local groups doing great work in this area. By bringing these resources together in one central hub, we hope to make it easier for residents to get involved. We encourage everyone interested to join this growing community of people looking for realistic and local sustainable options.

  • Key Features of the Hub:
Interactive Share, Reuse, Repair, Recycle Map: Find local businesses and organizations that support sustainable practices, from repair shops to donation centers.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in forums, share ideas, and stay informed.
  • News Feed: Stay informed on upcoming Circular Economy events.

Events you will see advertised on the hub include the County’s first-ever Repair Cafe & Clothing Swap Event on November 29, 2025, from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm, at the Lang Pioneer Village Agricultural Heritage Building at 146 N Lang Rd., Keene.

Fix broken items, swap clothing, and connect with sustainability-minded neighbours.
Residents can bring gently used clothing and take home something new to you, all for free! This is a great opportunity to refresh your closet and connect with others. Repair Cafe will also be on site to help residents with free repairs on small appliances, clothing, and more. If, for example, you have a torn favourite sweater that you want to keep but don’t know how to fix it, we can help you with that.

Check out our event page or www.ptbocounty.ca/repaircafe for more details and updates leading up to the event.

Peterborough County resident and founder of Clean Up Peterborough, Steve Paul, is organizing a Re: Connect Circular Economy Event on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 11:00 am-7:00 pm at the Morrow Building in Peterborough. County residents are welcome to attend the event and can expect:

  • A Free Market where gently used items find new homes.
    Drop-off opportunities for hard-to-recycle materials.
  • Hands-on activities and family-friendly ways to learn about sustainability.
  • Community connections with local organizations, makers, and changemakers.
