Lang Pioneer Village Museum Explores Exciting New Chapter: Community Members Invited to Participate in New Transition Committee

Since 1967, Lang Pioneer Village Museum has been an important cultural landmark in Peterborough County, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience the region's rich history. Today, as the Museum looks to the future, plans are underway to ensure it continues to thrive, welcomes new audiences, and shares an even broader range of stories from our past.

A recent service review highlighted opportunities to evolve how the Museum operates, expand its programming, and strengthen its connection to the community, including the possibility of transitioning to a non-profit operating model. A new structure could open doors to additional grant opportunities, helping to strengthen funding and support for the Museum’s future.

To guide this important work, Peterborough County is establishing a transition committee that will help shape the next chapter of Lang Pioneer Village Museum. The committee will explore new approaches that ensure the Museum remains a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable destination for generations to come.

“We are proud of the legacy Lang Pioneer Village Museum has built over more than five decades” said Bonnie Clark, Warden, Peterborough County. “As we look ahead, we want to make sure the Museum continues to grow while staying true to its heritage and community roots. Community voices will play a central role in shaping this journey.”

Peterborough County is inviting passionate community members to apply to join the newly formed Lang Museum Transition Committee.

As a member of the Committee, you will be reviewing possible opportunities for the County to transition from a County owned and operated museum to a not-for-profit organization. As part of this committee, you will be attending committee meetings approximately once every six weeks over the next two years to assist County Council and staff with the creation of a not-for-profit corporation and a Board of Directors. Once the transition is complete, Peterborough County is hopeful that committee members will consider being a member of the Board of Directors.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Individuals with a strong interest or experience in governance, not-for-profit, legal, accounting, human resources, tourism, communications or public relations, etc.

Committee Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing strategic advice and recommendations to County Council.
  • Providing insight on long-term planning for the Museum.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a resident of Peterborough County or have a strong connection to the region.
  • Able to commit to meetings, which will be held approximately every 6 weeks.
