The County of Peterborough is conducting an update to its Transportation Master Plan (TMP). This plan will guide the County in decision making related to infrastructure improvements and enhancements, safety updates and development of policy and standards for the next 30 years.

The TMP goes through an update process every five years to ensure we are on track and to identify areas for improvement.  The previous plan was completed in 2014.

2022 Transportation Master Plan Update

Information about the 2022 TMP

What is a Transportation Master Plan?

Transportation Master Plans (TMPs) are long-range plans that guide transportation planning and infrastructure needs to accommodate growth and development within a broad area.

Why is the County undertaking another update to the TMP?

TMPs are required to undergo a regular review to confirm previous recommendations and to identify areas for improvement. The County completed an update to its TMP in 2014, and has initiated this update to guide the County in decision making related to transportation infrastructure improvements up to 2051, the same horizon year as the new County Official Plan. As part of the TMP Update, the short- and long-term transportation infrastructure needs and deficiencies will be identified to help confirm the improvements to the transportation network required to efficiently address existing and future travel demands. This information feeds into other County plans and strategies, including the Development Charges By-law

What will the TMP Update include?

The TMP Update will include the preparation of policies and standards that support and enhance the maintenance and expansion of the transportation network, and will be an important resource for the County as it continues to adapt to changing needs, emerging issues and new opportunities. The TMP Update will be developed in consideration of applicable legislation and regulations, and the transportation plans of its lower tier municipalities, adjacent communities, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and First Nations. An implementation plan will be developed and documented within a TMP Update report to outline a framework for transportation improvement priorities and funding strategies.

What is the process?

This study is being undertaken in accordance with Approach #1 of the Master Planning Process, as outlined in Appendix 4 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) document (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015). As such, the TMP Update will generally address Phases 1 and 2 of the MCEA process, and will form the basis for the recommended Schedule B and C transportation infrastructure projects identified within the TMP Update report.

How long will the study take?

The study is anticipated to be completed in fall 2022.  The study commenced on July 31, 2020.

How can I become involved in this study?

The County is initiating a comprehensive public consultation process and your participation is encouraged to provide input to project planning by identifying potential transportation infrastructure needs and opportunities.
