Planning and Development
The County Planning department is responsible for:
- Severance processing and approval;
- Plan of subdivision and condominium processing and approval;
- Processing and approval of amendments to the County Official Plan;
- Approval of amendments to Township Official Plans;
- Providing planning services to local Townships;
- Providing planning advice to County Council;
Building permits are issued by the local Township. Zoning By-Law Amendments and minor variances are also processed by the local Township.

The County has a Development Charges By-Law and new rates in effect as of May 2, 2022.

Agreement with Peterborough County to have the various components of a Development Application reviewed by the County’s retained Peer Review Consultant.
Before you submit an application to amend the County Official Plan, or an application for a plan of subdivision or condominium, you must meet with us to discuss the proposal.
In 2017, the County initiated the development of a new Official Plan; one that is more user-friendly, and meets both Provincial and local directives.
The County of Peterborough Official Plan (OP) sets the land use and planning framework for local Official Plans and decision-making.
