The O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge (pronounced Oh-da-pee-tah-na-mawn) is:

  • a commitment made by visitors to make good choices and respect the land, waterways, culture and communities of Peterborough & the Kawarthas
  • an educational tool meant to increase awareness of and appreciation for the tremendous natural, cultural, and historical values of this great place,
  • Created in consultation with Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation and drawing on the teachings of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg of Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation, the O’de Piitaanemaan Pledge represents a universal and evergreen value—respect—and serves to unify everyone for whom the region lives within their hearts. Given the challenges we’ve all faced in the past year, a united pride of place among our residents, business owners, students and visitors will be essential to our successful tourism recovery for 2021.
