News Release: Is Your Urgency an Emergency? Campaign Launched
Today at Peterborough Paramedic Headquarters we were excited to launch the “Is Your Urgency an Emergency” campaign, in partnership with Peterborough County – City Paramedics, Peterborough Family Health Team and Peterborough 2-1-1. This important educational and awareness partnership campaign aims to educate residents of Peterborough City and County about the resources and services available in our community and empower them to make the call that best meets their needs.
Every month our paramedics receive hundreds of non-emergency calls which tie up our ambulances and can impact our ability to respond to real emergencies. "It is important to remember that 911 is for emergencies and although we will answer every 911 call and provide medical assistance, phoning for an ambulance is not always the right call to make to get the right care." ~ Chief Randy Mellow
“We are delighted to work with our local paramedics in this new campaign,” says Lori Richey, Executive Director of the Peterborough Family Health Team. “We are always looking for ways to enhance local health care services to ensure the patients’ health journey is a smooth experience. Through our many partnerships and shared messaging we are able to inform our community about where to seek appropriate health care for their needs. This is another step in the right direction to better our local health care system.”
“We are excited to be included in this creative awareness initiative to educate residents about accessing important services. With over 800 programs and services available to Peterborough residents, 211’s Community Navigators are available to guide residents to the most appropriate service, 24/7 and offer interpretation assistance in more than 150 languages.” Pamela Hillier, Executive Director – Community Connection/211 Central East Ontario
We are proud to partner with Global Peterborough, who will be broadcasting our public service announcement over the next weeks. For more information, view our video and gain more understanding of the services in our communities, please visit www.ptbocounty.ca/itsyourcall
